Our clients wanted an Art Deco garden to suit their Art Deco Saltdean bungalow. The oppressive crumbling red brick wall was demolished and more floor space made available. A new half height retaining wall the same shape as the Art Deco bay window, was rendered and painted white, bouncing lots more light in through the bedroom window. The famous sun ray motif was the start point for the design of the top level of the garden, with metal edged planting beds radiating out from the top of the steps.

Excellent from start to end….. We started with a neglected hilly expanse of space which we wanted to transform into a modern unconventional garden with an art deco feel.Liz and Mo - see full Google review.

Before landscaping
The brief was to create a beautiful garden, full of plants, that could also accomodate a full-size table tennis table. Intersecting circles are used to create distinct spaces within the garden and also serve as the "foot pads" for playing table tennis.
Lilybud have transformed a small unimaginative urban garden into a beautiful, peaceful space, that gives us cause to smile everyday.Nancy and Alan - see full Google review.
Many Brighton houses are built on steep hills, and without careful design, result in gardens with space that's difficult to enjoy and imposing retaining walls. Our brief here was to create a sizeable space for entertaining up to a dozen guests, in a relatively small garden. The strong circle at the centre of the upper level, makes the garden appear and feel bigger than it actually is. Large raised planting beds, enclose the seating area and will give our clients some privacy in this densely populated part of town, as well as soften the hard landscaping. Scented climbers will cover the walls and trellis in time.
Transformed an unusable small lawn and path into a stunning patio with seating perfect for entertaining.Emma and Johnny - see full Google review.

Before landscaping
This garden slopes significantly up away from the house. Our client wanted us to re-model the poorly conceived existing terracing, with its steep and narrow steps. 2 new sets of generous steps, with one set curving nicely up to the top (3rd level) in the garden, were designed and a generous mid-level patio created. White rendered walls, terracotta and blue tiles evoke a taste of the meditteranean, and the curved "Gaudi-esq" bench provides stylish permanent seating for the patio area.

City wildlife pond
The brief was to create a family garden, that would be relatively simple to maintain, but still offer the opportunity to grow some salad and vegetables, as well as gorgeous plants. We did away with the scrappy, failing lawn and created some chunky raised beds that double up as seating. Our clients like to cook for friends, so we built a purpose built BBQ area. A wildlife pond and surrounding bog-planting, makes this a fab garden for newts, frogs and dragon flies too.

Before
landscaping
Our clients wanted a low maintenance garden with a Moroccan feel, with space for lying in the sun as well as seating for as many people as possible, so the raised built-in-planters double up as seating. Lush planting was specified to soften the strong lines. Carefully chosen arches, that evoke both Morocco and Brighton Pavillion, keep the garden connected to its surroundings.
We now have the most beautiful courtyard garden in the world and obviously it's unique - we can't thank you enough for realising our dreams.Candy and Chris, West Hill Street

Before landscaping
Lush planting in both sunny and shady corners were specified. A new green oak pergola was designed and constructed to set off and mirror the footprint of the existing deck. Boring railings were replaced with funky new spirals and swirls inspired by the waves on the nearby beach.

Before landscaping
A west facing garden designed for entertaining. Shade from the sun was created with the timber and steel cable pergola. The neat stainless steel-edged lawn compliments the welsh green slate creating a stylish modern feel.
Fantastic! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Lilybud for anyone who was looking for excellent garden design in Brighton. Our garden, like many others in Brighton...Tim Wills - see full Google review.

Before landscaping
The aim was to create a plant-lovers garden that the clients could see develop over the years. Space was left for them to add plants as and when they wanted. Some plants were selected for their merit in attracting beneficial wildlife to compliment the informal pond, which with careful use of mirrors on the walls appears to flow through the garden.

Before landscaping
A block of concrete capped with old slabs meant our clients looked out of their kitchen onto a wall. By removing the structure, narrowing the steps and laying re-claimed york stone we created a lovely sheltered useable space. (Safety hand rails went in after this photo was taken.)
The ground level area was re-modelled with smart retaining walls for raised beds and leaving plenty of room for entertaining friends. The raised beds were planted with climbers including Wisteria, Clematis, Akebia quinata and under-planted with a low growing lavender. (Safety rails were fitted after this photo was taken.)
Lisa, Dave and the rest of the team worked tirelessly to create two fabulous gardens out of one tired looking useable space. We're delighted and the family now spends lots more time outside.Mark and Sarah, Park Crescent

Before landscaping
Our client wanted a small patio area to enjoy the sun later in the day. Our design reclaimed the curved lawn but smartened it by adding a pebble path. New herbaceous planting went in, along with some new climbers to bring colour and scent to this previously un-used bit of the garden.
We chose Lilybud Gardens by Design because they produced a better design at a better price. They were very friendly and committed and we'd definately recommend them.Francis and Jeanette

Before landscaping
This low maintenance garden had to designed, built and planted to a tight budget.
Simple geometric forms suited the garden space and defined it nicely within the wider somewhat overgrown garden. The tired concrete slabs were lifted and given a new lease of life, by setting them within a timber framework shape to mirror the existing garden table.
Evergreen screening was introduced to give privacy. A formal hedge was discounted in favour of using 2 different evergreens, broken up with the use of a purple leaved smoke bush and a scented winter flowering Viburnum by the gate post. Red stems of dogwoods add interest in winter and an underplanting of heucheras adds flower power.
Mixed tree, shrub, bulb and herbaceous planting provide all year interest and breathes life into this front garden that had previously been laid to concrete. The cobbles allow water to drain properly and don’t require concrete foundations.
