Lilybud ~ Gardens by Design provides quality
garden design and build services in the Brighton area. The business is run by
Lisa Attwell who passed the Royal Horticultural Society General
Certificate with a commendation. Lisa also has garden design and
building craft qualifications as well as years of gardening and
horticultural experience. In addition to running Lilybud ~ Gardens by
Design, she is the part-time Head Gardener at a 3 acre historic walled garden in the
heart of Brighton.
Our design approach aims to create beautiful yet practical outdoor space, with every design element working hard to give maximum value in Brighton’s small town gardens. We hope this means people spend more enjoyable time in their outdoor space.

An ethical approach
As gardeners, we experience the impact of climate change at a local (ground) level. This has led Lilybud ~ Gardens by Design to maximise the use of “green” products and working practices wherever possible. We’re committed to sourcing materials and working practices that have as little negative impact on people and the environment as possible. Furthermore, where we can, we’ll build in elements that offer a benefit to our environment, eg, by incorporating plants that benefit the birds and the bees and other native biodiversity.
Using local materials where possible is also good for your garden. Local materials blend well visually with local architecture and tend to be better for the environment because less transport costs are involved in moving them. When using imported stone and aggregates we’ve done our homework and have selected suppliers with a good record for sound working practice.
From removing waste, such as old paving and concrete to sourcing new materials, you can be sure we’re operating responsibly. The good news is that this doesn’t mean your garden will cost the earth. Just one example is the way we deal with rubbish – by separating it and sending the green waste to become compost and other waste to appropriate channels means that we often save money for our clients.
We’re mindful that both drought and drainage are issues for 21st century and we design with this in mind. Ultimately, the style of garden you choose is entirely up to you ~ our job is to help you make informed choices - whether about plants, lawn or types of paving.
